Down the Drain

I don’t think my prayer worked! I prayed for a specific thing last night, and this morning...I am not seeing the fruit of my prayer!

Right before I went to bed, I was reading in Exodus. God was having a chat with His friend Moses. God was telling Moses that He had chosen Bezalel, from the tribe of Judah to make artistic designs for everything to do with the Holy Place. God gave Moses the directions, and explained how He had filled Bezalel with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge, and with all kinds of skills. (Exodus 31:3) Wow! Those are all GREAT things. I paused in my reading, and asked God to fill me with those things, too. Soon after that, I headed to bed feeling happy and confident.

The first thing I do each morning is stumble to the coffee pot. I know many of you can relate, but there is just something so amazing about that first sip! Except not this time. Apparently when I went to bed, I hit “go” on the coffee pot instead of the timer. I didn't notice the light was off when I poured my first cup. I took my first sip... of stone cold coffee. The very first thought that popped in my head was, “Well apparently God didn’t fill me with all kinds of skills because I can’t even make hot coffee!”

Listen, friends. God DOES hear our prayers. And He answers our prayers at exactly the right time, but He answers on His time, not ours. When you feel overwhelmed and frustrated, don’t despair. God is working in you to bring His perfect plan for your life to fulfillment.

God has been teaching me over time that specific prayers get specific answers. I dumped the entire pot of cold coffee down the sink-the whole pot! Then I settled in with a new attitude, to match my new, steamy cup of coffee, and a new prayer. While we can’t always dump things down the sink when they don’t turn out as we hoped, we can always go to the One who loves us and is ready and waiting to hear from us. He is waiting to fill us with His Spirit, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge, and with all kinds of skills.
