Game, Set, Match
The whole world has gone mad! Everywhere you turn, there is a headline that goes something like this: “Another Win for …” It would be fine if it was talking about a sports contest, but these headlines are talking about keeping score in life, against each other.
Sometimes we have to keep score, like in tennis for example, or you won’t know who won. Did you know if you have not scored any points in tennis, your score is love? Love. In tennis it means nothing, but In life, especially when applied to our actions toward others, it means everything. Here’s a little about what scripture has to say on the topic of love:
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-5
In tennis, the score of “all” means the score is even. What if we “all” stopped keeping score against each other? God didn’t put us on this earth to try to outdo each other, so maybe we should try a little harder to respond with kindness and love in all situations.
I don’t think there is a tennis analogy in the Bible, but if there was the winner of the match would be the player who displayed love in all circumstances and to all people. If we really want to sharpen our skills in the game of life, we should LOVE-ALL: Game, Set, Match. What a score!
